The National Investigation Agency (NIA) disclosed details of its investigation in the Rabins Hameed and Faisal Fareed UAE on Tuesday for the first time after filing a case related to gold smuggling through the diplomatic channel. According to a report submitted by the NIA Court, prime accused Faisal Fareed and Rabins Hameed have been arrested by UAE authorities.
"It has been conveyed by UAE authorities that Faizal Fareed and Rabins Hameed have been arrested and that strict action would be taken against all conspirators, as the accused have tried to damage the friendly relations between India and the UAE," the agency said in a report filed in response to the bail petitions filed by seven accused people.
The NIA also claimed that the accused forged papers and obtained authorization certificates from UAE diplomats under false pretenses in order to smuggle the gold. According to the report, an NIA team toured the UAE as part of the investigation and could gather information about the source of the smuggled gold and the involvement of more people.
